GSK Community Health Programme

This one works differently to most funds in this directory. The GSK Community Health programme is closer to an award than a grant: you do not pitch a website, or any project at all. You apply on your charity’s track record tackling health inequalities, and if you are selected, £10,000 arrives unrestricted. How you spend it is then entirely your call, and a website or digital project is a perfectly legitimate use. Win on the work first, decide on the spend afterwards.

• What they fund: Up to £10,000 in unrestricted funding for small charities tackling health inequalities in their communities, plus a place on a King’s Fund leadership development programme valued at £5,000.
• Typical grants: Up to £10,000, with up to ten charities selected each year.
• Who can apply: Registered charities at least a year old, located and working in the UK, with a total annual income between £20,000 and £150,000. GSK and The King’s Fund actively encourage applications from organisations led by and supporting under-represented communities.
• The angle: There is no project case to make, which cuts both ways. You cannot apply “for a website”, but you do not have to dress one up as a health outcome either. The judges want the story of your whole organisation, and the funder’s own guidance is blunt that applications focused on a single project will not be shortlisted. If your track record is strong, this is one of the cleanest routes to unrestricted money you can later point at your website.
• Worth knowing: It is competitive, with recent rounds drawing around 230 applications for ten places. Applications go through the King’s Fund grants portal, with an eligibility quiz and account registration before you can start, so leave time for that. The leadership programme is part of the deal and needs a genuine time commitment. If your income is between £150,000 and £3 million, look at the sister scheme instead: the GSK IMPACT Awards offer up to £50,000 unrestricted on the same win-first, spend-later model, with stage one closing 19 August 2026.
