Fixed budget web agency at your disposal
Block hours give your team a known monthly cost and a developer on the other end of an email – for everything from a quick copy change to a new landing page in a hurry.
Your very own web agency
A WordPress site is never finished. Pages get added, plugins get updated, a new campaign needs a landing page by Friday. Block hours keep the team that built your site on tap – without you needing to raise a PO every time.
What’s actually in the box
A pre-paid bag of hours your editor can dip into — for the small stuff, fast.
Email, phone or Slack. You get a senior engineer, not a ticket number.
Hours roll over. Nothing expires until your term ends.
Monthly invoice. Same number every month — until you change it.
Cancel at the end of your term. No auto-renew. No fight.

The small jobs that quietly compound.
Real things our retainer clients ask for, with the time they typically take. If yours isn’t on the list, it’s probably still fine – ask us.
1–3 hrs
A new landing page by Friday
Campaign launching next week and the marketing team needs a custom page. We block, design and ship inside your theme — usually one to three hours, depending on complexity.
2–6 hrs
A new editor block
An impact-stat row. A donation-tier toggle. A staff carousel with a custom layout. Custom blocks added to your library so anyone on your team can drop one in.
1–2 hrs
Editor training for new staff
A new comms manager who’s never used your site. We jump on a call, walk through every block, and write up a one-pager they can keep.
0.5–2 hrs
Plugin & core updates done properly
Tested on staging, regression-checked, then pushed. Not the ‘update everything and hope’ approach — done on a schedule that matches your release calendar.
3–5 hrs
A Core Web Vitals tune-up
Page-speed scores slipping after a year of content. We audit, find the regressions, fix them, and hand back a Lighthouse run you can show the trustees.
3–6 hrs
A newsletter template that doesn’t look like 2012
Rebuild your Mailchimp or Campaign Monitor template in the same visual language as the site, with editor-safe blocks for monthly send-outs.
Five steps. The longest is the first one – picking the block.
Pick the block.
Five, ten or twenty hours a month – whichever matches how much your site actually moves.
Pick the term.
Six, twelve or thirty-six months. Longer term, lower hourly rate. No fine print.
Agreement in place.
A one-page agreement that says what’s in, what’s out, and what the monthly invoice is. Then we’re off.
Email us. Or just call.
Same developer who knows your codebase. Every minute is logged in and viewable on request.
Time roll over.
Didn’t use all your hours this month? They’re banked for next month.

Block hours suit organisations with a steady drumbeat of small jobs. If you need a hard SLA, look at monthly support. If you only need us twice a year, the on-demand rate is fine – really.
| Comparison | Block hour retainer | Support & Maintenance | On-demand |
|---|---|---|---|
| Up-front commitment | 6, 12 or 36 months | Rolling monthly | None – pay per job |
| Response time (SLA) | Same business day | Within 4 hours | Best efforts |
| Plugin & core updates | Included | Included | – |
| Best for | Steady stream of small jobs | Site you can’t lose | One-off, occasional |

What happens if we don’t use all our hours in a month?
They roll over to the next month. They keep rolling until the end of your term. We don’t ‘reset’ your balance at month-end and we don’t quietly pocket unused hours — that’s the whole point of the model.
What if we run out of hours mid-month?
Top up at the same hourly rate as your current plan, or upgrade to a bigger block for the remaining months. Or wait until next month — the hours land on the 1st like clockwork. We won’t down tools without telling you.
Is there a minimum job size?
Fifteen minutes. We bill in 15-minute increments and round honestly — a five-minute job is logged as five, not thirty. Every line on your time report is dated, described and signed off by the engineer who did the work.
Can we use block hours on something other than our website?
Within reason. Newsletter templates, accessibility audits, light branding work, third-party integration help — yes. Building you a separate Shopify store — no, that’s a project. If you’re not sure, ask.
What happens at the end of the term?
It doesn’t auto-renew. About six weeks before your end date, we’ll send you a renewal note with any rate changes; you decide. Stay on, switch plans, or leave and pay our on-demand rate next time you need us. No fight.
Who actually does the work?
The senior engineer who built your site, day-to-day. For specialist work (design, copy, accessibility audits) one of our designers or auditors will pick it up — but only after we’ve checked with you first. No outsourcing, no offshoring.
