Leathersellers’ Foundation Small Grants

Leathersellers gives small charities a one-off unrestricted grant of up to £5,000 with no reporting afterwards. Unrestricted means you can spend it on your website or digital tools.

Have your application ready before 10am on opening day: only 40 are accepted per round.

• What they fund: Every application is considered for a single-year unrestricted grant. The funder’s own budget template covers the whole organisation rather than a project, because the grant is unrestricted, so a website, a donations setup or digital tools all sit inside it.
• Typical grants: Up to £5,000, paid as a one-off, with no reporting required afterwards.
• Who can apply: Your charity must:
  • be a registered charity or CIO (CICs aren’t eligible), active for at least a year
  • have income and expenditure under £200,000 in both the current and previous year
  • have published accounts and a public website
  • hold no more than six months’ running costs in free reserves
  • provide services that are free at the point of access
• The angle: This is a race, not a beauty contest. Windows usually fill within the hour, so draft offline using the funder’s Word form, have it pasted and ready, and submit at 10am on the dot. The success rate was 16% last year, which is generous by grant standards, but only if you get in.
• Worth knowing: The round closes at 40 applications or after two weeks, whichever comes first. Capital projects, hospices, medical research, PTAs and scouting groups are excluded. If you miss this window there are several more scheduled, so put them in the diary now.
