The Allen Lane Foundation backs running costs as well as projects, so a site can sit inside a general grant without needing its own justification, as long as the cause fits their list.

  • What they fund: Up to £15,000, though most grants are £5,000 to £6,000, as a single grant or spread over two to three years, supporting running and core costs as well as project costs. That core-costs flexibility is where a website comfortably fits.
  • Who can apply: Small charities and charitable not-for-profits, including some CICs, with income under about £100,000 for local work or £250,000 for UK-wide work. Work solely benefiting Greater London is excluded, and it funds seven specific groups: refugees and asylum seekers, women, people affected by violence or abuse, offenders, people with mental health issues, and disadvantaged young people.
  • The angle: Cause fit matters more than the budget line, so a website inside a core-costs request is fine if the charity serves one of the seven groups. There are no deadlines, but trustees meet only three times a year and applications take up to six months, so it suits planning ahead rather than a rush.
