The Robertson Trust exists to prevent and reduce poverty and trauma in Scotland, and a good share of its funding comes with no strings on how it is spent. Wee Grants are unrestricted by design and can go on revenue or capital costs, which puts a website squarely in scope. Small Grants can be unrestricted too, and run for up to five years. As with the other unrestricted routes in this directory, the fit test is your charity’s work, not the line item.
- What they fund: Revenue and capital funding for registered charities and constituted community groups helping people and communities in Scotland who are living with poverty and trauma. Unrestricted grants cover the general running of the organisation, so a new website needs no separate justification.
- Typical grants: Wee Grants of up to £5,000 for one year. Small Grants of £5,000 to £20,000 per year for up to five years. Large Grants of £20,000 to £50,000 per year exist for charities with income between £200,000 and £2 million, but are temporarily paused to new applicants until the end of August 2026.
- Who can apply: Organisations working in Scotland only. Wee Grants are for groups and charities with annual income under £30,000; Small Grants for registered charities with income between £30,000 and £200,000. Unrestricted applications are particularly welcomed where your work addresses one or more of the Trust’s four themes: education pathways, work pathways, financial security and nurturing relationships.
- The angle: If your charity’s core work is about poverty or trauma, the website conversation never needs to happen with the funder. Apply for unrestricted funding on the strength of what you do, then spend it on what you need, which can include the site.
- Worth knowing: No deadlines, but decisions are currently taking 10 to 12 weeks across all funds due to high demand, so factor that into any build timeline. Large Grants reopen to all applicants by the end of August 2026 with a new two-stage process, one to watch for bigger clients. You cannot hold or apply for a Community Spaces Grant at the same time as a Small or Large Grant.
